Cork Street public art

Context Office helped Cork Street Galleries to realise new public art installations at the heart of London’s West End art scene, reactivating the public realm after the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. We collaborated with curators, technicians and Westminster City Council to define streetscape, architectural and highways interactions. We brought together site-specific proposals to secure a unique planning approval for an on-going programme of open-air commissions in Cork Street. The inaugural artwork, ‘Ravenous and Predatory’ by Gina Fischli was unveiled during Frieze Art Week 2021 – twenty-six large format images brought beasts, common and wild alike, to the refined urbanity of Mayfair. The launch coincided with a series of new gallery openings and virtual artworks in the public realm. The second Cork Street Banners commission featured the acclaimed work ‘Feeling Her Way’ by Sonia Boyce OBE RA, first shown in the British Pavilion at the 59th Venice Art Biennale.
